Master in Global Change Management (GCM)

Global Change Management is a master's programme that trains students to address natural resource management challenges under conditions of global change. The curriculum builds competencies in four interconnected areas: understanding the dynamics of socio-ecological systems and their contribution to human well-being; assessing threats and risks to systems functionality; identifying leverage points for change; and developing and implementing change management strategies directed toward sustainability. The programme runs over 4 semesters, beginning in the winter semester. The first two semesters cover modules focused on system analysis, human-nature interactions, and related risks. The third semester is devoted to a research project or internship at a partner institution in Germany or abroad, and the fourth semester is reserved for the master's thesis. The pace of study is mixed, combining fixed examination dates with content that can be studied flexibly. The programme is delivered entirely in English and is intended for graduates with backgrounds in natural sciences or related fields who want to develop science-informed approaches to sustainability problems.
