About the Program

Global Health at the University of Bonn is a two-semester master's programme offered by the medical faculty in collaboration with the faculty of agriculture, nutrition and engineering and the Center for Development Research (ZEF). It is taught in English and designed for postgraduate students from around the world who already have professional experience in a health-related field. The first semester begins with a core course that provides a foundation in global health and refreshes academic and research skills. Students then choose elective modules from areas such as global clinical care and non-communicable diseases, health systems management and policies, food and nutrition security, humanitarian aid and development cooperation, spatial health assessment, One Health and climate change, and sustainable development. Four elective modules must be completed, and students may also draw on offerings within the tropEd network. The final three months are dedicated entirely to the master's thesis, which must address an interdisciplinary or intersectoral topic with demonstrated practical relevance. All teaching takes place in small groups through seminars and tutorials, with excursions and exchange with practitioners integrated into the programme. Graduates are prepared for careers in health-related management, policy making, policy advice, and health and social advocacy at international, national, or regional levels.
