This one-year full-time program prepares a person to become a licensed hairstylist in Ontario. Training takes place in a real salon. Students gain hands-on experience in cutting, styling, colouring, and chemical treatments. The program includes 1,500 hours of education. Of those, 990 hours are practical work. Three general education courses are part of the program to support professional development.

Students learn current techniques in permanent waving, hair colouring, chemical relaxing, and styling. Each term builds on the previous one. The first term covers foundational skills. Later terms focus on complex styles and client consultations. Students manage daily salon operations. This includes booking appointments, handling payments, and maintaining hygiene standards. Faculty with over 40 years of combined industry experience guide the training.

After completing the program, a person can register as an apprentice. This step fulfills the remaining 2,000 hours needed for full licensure. After finishing all school and apprenticeship hours, the person qualifies to write the provincial Certificate of Qualification Exam. Graduates often work in salons, spas, resorts, or start their own businesses.
