    About the Program

    The Health Care Aide Certificate prepares graduates to work as licensed Health Care Aides in Alberta. Students learn to support individuals with complex health needs in various care settings. The programme includes classroom instruction, lab simulations, and clinical placements. Graduates are eligible to write the provincial HCA exam for employment in continuing care.

    1 year (2 terms), 30 credits, includes clinical placements.

    Graduates work as Health Care Aides in continuing care, hospitals, home care, supportive living, and community health settings.

    High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 60% in English 20-1 or 20-2, or 55% in English 30-1 or 30-2. English language proficiency required: TOEFL iBT 71, IELTS Academic 6.0 (no band below 5.5), CLB 7, CELPIP General 7.0 (no score below 6.0), Duolingo 95, PTE Academic 50, or Canadian high school/post-secondary study in English.

    In-person, full-time, 1 year.

    English Test Requirement

    TOEFL iBT 71, IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, CLB 7 in each skill, CELPIP General 7.0 overall with no score below 6.0, Duolingo 95, PTE Academic 50, or three consecutive years of full-time English study in a Canadian high school or two years in a Canadian post-secondary program.
