Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship

This programme is for individuals with mechanical knowledge and a hands-on approach who want to work with heavy vehicles and industrial equipment. Students learn to maintain, repair, and overhaul large trucks and off-road machinery. The training combines classroom instruction with on-the-job experience. Graduates qualify for a Journeyperson Certificate and an Advanced Diploma.

Four years with 1,560 hours of on-the-job training and eight weeks of classroom instruction each year. 80% on the job, 20% classroom.

Graduates work as Heavy Equipment Technicians, Service Managers, Shop Foremen, Mobile Technicians, Contractors, or Business Owners.

ELA 30-2, Math 30-3, Physics 30 or Chem 30 or Science 30, and Related CTS courses. OR ELA 20-2, Math 20-3, Science 10. OR pass all five Canadian GED tests. OR successful completion of AIT’s entrance exam.

On-campus, full-time, four years.
