Bachelor in Hibiki Hideout And Flying Carpet

Tuition costs 17,800 GBP per year.

Students who possess a keen interest in sustainable design and the intersection of architecture, illustration, and creative writing will find this project an exceptional case study in collaborative practice. Participants engage in a real-world brief provided by the National Trust and Woodland Trust, focusing on the development of site-specific interpretation structures within the Fingle Woods environment. This programme highlights the ability to transform conceptual planning drawings into tangible, sustainable architecture using locally sourced Douglas fir.

The project focuses on two distinct structures:

• Hibiki Hideout: Designed as an intimate, acoustic-focused space on Rivermead meadow, this structure provides a sanctuary for reflection and mental health recovery, allowing users to experience the unique soundscapes of the brook and river Teign.
• Flying Carpet: A trail-side installation engineered to offer hikers and visitors an immersive vantage point, providing a new perspective on the surrounding beech canopy and a place for rest.

Interdisciplinary Design Execution

By working across disciplines, participants learn to navigate the complexities of client expectations and site-specific constraints. The process involves comprehensive site analysis, digital collaboration, and the delivery of professional-grade architectural documentation, culminating in the physical realisation of the designs within a natural forest setting.
