Bachelor in Hnc Applied Computing

Tuition comes to 17,800 GBP per year.

Industry-focused teaching and learning facilities define the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Applied Computing, which is delivered at Exeter College in partnership with the University of Plymouth. This programme is designed for students who thrive in smaller class sizes and benefit from direct, individualised support from tutors with significant industry experience.

The curriculum bridges the gap between theoretical computing concepts and their practical application in real-world business environments. Students gain hands-on experience in specialized networking labs and learn to manage data systems that are critical to modern operations, from small-scale business logistics to large-scale big data analytics. By blending classroom theory with practical, workplace-aligned activities, the course prepares graduates to solve complex algorithmic problems and implement robust software solutions.

Community-Focused Learning

As a student on this programme, you benefit from a dual-institution experience. You are part of the close-knit community at Exeter College while also holding the status of a University of Plymouth student, granting you access to university-level resources, support services, and membership in the Students’ Union. This partnership model is specifically structured to offer a more accessible, supportive route into higher education for those looking to enhance their professional development or return to formal study.

University of Plymouth, situated on England’s southwest coast, is a modern, student-centred university with around 18,000 students and a welcoming international community. The campus blends contemporary facilities with strong industry links, particularly in marine science, health, engineering and business. Plymouth emphasises practical learning and employability, offering placements, internships and project-based modules that connect students directly with employers and local partners.

International students find Plymouth attractive for its supportive campus services, range of student societies and manageable city scale that balances urban amenities with coastal lifestyle. The university provides pre‑arrival guidance, English language support and dedicated international student teams to ease transition and help with accommodation, visas and wellbeing. Teaching approaches combine lectures, labs and applied projects, while research-active staff bring real-world problems into the classroom.

Graduates from Plymouth benefit from strong regional and national employer engagement, which can lead to placements, graduate roles and entrepreneurial support through incubators and career services. The city’s quality of life, lower cost compared with larger UK cities and emphasis on hands-on learning make Plymouth a practical choice for students seeking a balanced academic experience and strong prospects for work or further study after graduation.
