Graduates of the PhD project Improving Passengers Experience Using Tactical and Real Time Train Scheduling and Routing Algorithms go on to roles in railway traffic management, transport planning, and academic research and teaching. The project aims to enhance passenger experience, reduce emissions, and mitigate overcrowding, tardiness and cancellations by developing new algorithms and a decision support system. Candidates will investigate areas such as train connections, delay management and train cancellations while working to improve the efficiency of railway traffic management at both tactical and real-time levels. This PhD, funded for international students, offers a stipend in line with the UKRI rate and a £1,500 per annum allowance for project costs.
