Akita International University offers a three-year bachelor's transfer track in International Liberal Arts for students entering as second-year transfers, taught in English at the university's campus in Akita, Japan, with intake in April or September. The track is built on the same International Liberal Arts philosophy that runs through the university's undergraduate programs, combining specialized academic content with cultural depth and a global outlook. Akita International University developed this approach to prepare students for a world where cross-border exchange keeps deepening, aiming to help them recognize different values and worldviews, work through shared problems together, and shape their own direction going forward. The university describes its faculty and staff as an additional family for students living away from home, and it keeps class sizes small, about 18 students per class, so that instructors can support each student individually. For students transferring into the second year, the International Liberal Arts curriculum typically covers coursework in international relations, language studies, business, and area studies, building on credit and coursework already completed elsewhere and letting transfer students catch up to their cohort within a shortened timeline. Programs structured this way commonly combine seminar-style classes, writing assignments, and group work that connects academic theory to real-world situations. Graduates of international liberal arts programs often pursue careers in international business, diplomacy, education, translation, nonprofit work, and public policy, fields where cross-cultural communication and adaptable thinking matter. Completing the degree through a transfer track also gives students the chance to bring prior academic experience into a new, English-medium environment in Japan, broadening their exposure to different educational systems and international classmates along the way.
