International Security and Development, known as ISAD, is a master's programme at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, running for two years across four semesters, taught in English, with an annual tuition fee of 4000 EUR. The programme responds to global problems such as the war in Syria, the difficult situation in Ukraine, the European migrant crisis, and the threat of terrorist attacks, which its own materials describe as showing strong demand for specialists and strategists in security and development, and the need for greater public awareness of the link between aid to developing countries and the sense of security in developed ones. ISAD aims to foster creative thinking about complex problems of global security and development, equipping students with analytical tools, language expertise, and cross-cultural understanding, along with professional skills for managing global security and development in an international setting. The programme is run jointly by international experts and Jagiellonian University lecturers, with academic courses taught in English and students additionally learning a second, chosen foreign language. Two academic tracks are offered: international security and crisis management, and development and security. The curriculum includes professional traineeships and workshops with experts. As with comparable programmes, the field builds on undergraduate study in international relations, political science, or a related discipline, and graduates typically pursue careers in international development, security policy, humanitarian work, or government and international organizations.
