About Master in Islamic Studies MA

Each week you will attend two-hour seminars for each of your three modules, complete preparatory reading and assignments, and engage in guided independent learning. In the first term you will also begin planning your dissertation and submit a proposal, while the second term sees you conduct research under a supervisor, culminating in a 15,000-word dissertation or a placement-based alternative submitted at the end of August.

The MA in Islamic Studies explores the theological, legal and ethical dimensions of Islam, probing both pre-modern traditions and contemporary debates about Muslim societies, politics and philosophy. A distinctive feature of the programme is the option to undertake a placement-based dissertation, linking academic research with practical experience in relevant organisations.

Flexibility allows you to shape the degree around your interests.
