Bachelor in Licence - Philosophie

The tuition fee is 178 EUR per year.

The Licence - Philosophie (Philosophy) at the Université de Lorraine - UFR Sciences Humaines et Sociales in Nancy, France, is a three-year bachelor programme delivered in French. It trains students in the disciplined examination of fundamental questions about knowledge, reality, ethics, and human existence. Philosophy at university level means careful reading of canonical texts — from Plato and Aristotle through Descartes, Kant, Hegel, and into the twentieth and twenty-first centuries — alongside sustained engagement with argument, reasoning, and conceptual analysis. Courses typically cover logic and the theory of knowledge, metaphysics and ontology, moral and political philosophy, the philosophy of language, and the history of philosophy across its major periods and traditions. Students learn to read difficult texts precisely, to reconstruct arguments, and to write clearly about abstract problems. These intellectual skills are transferable to a wide range of professional settings where critical thinking and clear communication matter. Graduates of philosophy degrees work in secondary education (after a master's and competitive examination), publishing and journalism, human resources, consulting, the civil service, and cultural institutions. Law and management are also directions that philosophy graduates sometimes pursue after additional training. A master's in philosophy, ethics applied to professional contexts, or education is the most common continuation. The programme begins in September and lasts 3 years. Yearly tuition is 178 EUR.
