Institut Catholique de Lyon

Bachelor in Licence - Philosophie

Lyon, France Taught in French Open to international students

About the Program

The Licence - Philosophie (Bachelor in Philosophy) at the Institut Catholique de Lyon in Lyon, France, is a three-year bachelor-level program delivered entirely in French. Philosophy as a discipline examines fundamental questions about knowledge, existence, ethics, language, and political life, drawing on a tradition of argument and analysis stretching from ancient Greece through to contemporary thought. Students typically study the history of philosophy, logic, epistemology, ethics and moral philosophy, political philosophy, and philosophy of mind, engaging closely with canonical texts and learning to construct rigorous arguments. At a Catholic institution, philosophical study may also engage with questions in the philosophy of religion and theology alongside the standard academic curriculum. Graduates go on to master programs in philosophy, education, political science, or ethics, and to careers in teaching, research, cultural institutions, journalism, public policy, and the social sector. The program begins in September, runs for 3 years, and all instruction is in French.
