Bachelor in Licence - Philosophie

At Université Clermont Auvergne, tuition fees are 178 EUR per year.

The Licence — Philosophie at Université Clermont Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand, France, is a three-year bachelor's program that introduces students to the history of philosophy and its major thematic branches. Students read foundational texts from ancient Greek thought — Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics — through medieval philosophy, the early modern rationalists and empiricists, Kant and German idealism, and the major twentieth-century currents including phenomenology, analytic philosophy, and critical theory. Thematic courses address ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind and consciousness, logic, epistemology, and aesthetics. The program trains students in rigorous argumentation, conceptual analysis, and the composition of philosophical essays. Formal logic and the philosophy of science are also introduced, equipping students to engage with contemporary scientific debates. The capacity for clear, structured reasoning developed through philosophical study is transferable to a wide range of professional contexts. Instruction is in French. Philosophy graduates pursue careers in secondary and higher education teaching, publishing, journalism, public administration, policy analysis, ethics consultancy, human resources, and cultural institutions. Many continue to a master's degree in philosophy, cognitive science, or related fields. The program starts in September and runs for 3 years. Tuition is 178 EUR per year.
