Bachelor in Licence - Portail Sciences de la Vie - Sciences de la Terre

The tuition fee is 178 EUR per year.

The Licence - Portail Sciences de la Vie - Sciences de la Terre (Gateway Degree in Life Sciences and Earth Sciences) provides a broad scientific foundation covering the major fields of biology and geology. Students study cell biology, ecology, genetics, biochemistry, geology, geochemistry, palaeontology, and environmental sciences, gaining an integrated view of living systems and the physical Earth that supports them. The gateway format is designed to give students a solid grounding across these interconnected disciplines before they specialise in a chosen direction from the second or third year of study. Laboratory work and field sessions complement lectures throughout the programme, developing practical observation, sampling, and data analysis skills alongside theoretical knowledge of organisms, ecosystems, and geological processes. Students learn to use scientific instruments, interpret experimental results, and present findings in written scientific reports, building the core competences of natural science practice. The programme is particularly suited to students with strong interests in natural science who want to explore multiple disciplines before committing to a single specialisation, and the gateway structure allows for informed decision-making about further study. The degree is offered at Le Mans Université in Le Mans, France, at the bachelor level over 3 years. Courses are taught in French, with tuition set at 178 EUR per year. The programme begins in September. Graduates may go on to master's programmes in biology, ecology, geology, or environmental science, and careers in research, environmental consulting, education, or the natural and agricultural sectors.
