Bachelor in Licence - Sciences de la terre

The tuition fee is 178 EUR per year.

Earth sciences — Sciences de la terre — is the study of the physical composition, structure, history, and processes of our planet. A Licence Sciences de la terre typically addresses geology, mineralogy, petrology, geomorphology, tectonics, palaeontology, and the dynamics of the Earth's interior and surface systems. Students learn to read geological maps, identify rocks and minerals in hand specimens and under the microscope, reconstruct stratigraphic sequences, and understand the forces that have shaped the Earth over geological time. Field work is a central component in most programmes, taking students into natural settings to observe and interpret geological features directly. Supporting coursework in physics, chemistry, and mathematics provides the quantitative foundation needed for geophysical modelling, geochemical analysis, and environmental assessment. Students also learn to use digital tools for mapping and data processing that are standard in professional earth science work. Graduates move into careers in natural resource exploration (minerals, water, hydrocarbons), environmental consulting, urban planning, geological survey institutions, civil engineering ground investigation, and climate and environmental research. Postgraduate specialisation in geophysics, hydrogeology, or environmental earth sciences is a frequent next step. Université de Caen Normandie delivers this Licence Sciences de la terre in Caen, Normandy, France, over 3 years from September. Instruction is in French. Annual tuition is 178 EUR.
