Bachelor in Licence - Sociologie

Tuition comes to 178 EUR per year.

Sociology — Sociologie in French — examines how human societies are organised, how institutions function, and how social change unfolds over time. Students develop skills in sociological theory, research methodology, and the analysis of collective behaviour, inequality, work, family, education, and culture. Courses typically progress from foundational concepts of classical sociology through to contemporary approaches that address globalisation, digital society, urban dynamics, and social movements. Fieldwork and statistical methods are introduced alongside qualitative research techniques, preparing graduates to interpret social data and communicate findings clearly. This bachelor-level programme, the Licence - Sociologie at Université de Caen Normandie, is offered in Caen, France, and runs over 3 years. Instruction is in French throughout. The annual tuition fee is 178 EUR, making it accessible by international standards for a public French university degree. The programme starts in September. Graduates pursue careers in social research, public administration, community organisations, human resources, journalism, and the voluntary sector. Many continue with a master's degree in sociology, social policy, or related disciplines. The foundation in research methods also serves those who enter data analysis roles or go on to doctoral study. Studying in Caen places students in a mid-sized Norman city with a student population, direct rail connections to Paris, and a historically significant cultural environment.
