About the Program

The programme runs for one year full-time, split into two taught semesters and a summer research project. During semesters 1 and 2 you study core modules that cover critical theory, research methodologies and media practice, then select optional modules that deepen specialist interests. The taught phase ends with a practice-led project, which you develop into a dissertation-style final project in the summer, supported by workshops and studio facilities.

Graduates enter careers as digital media producers, content strategists, curators, researchers or consultants in cultural institutions, media companies and technology firms, and many progress to PhD study. The course’s distinctive advantage is its base at Winchester School of Art, offering advanced audio-visual labs and close ties to the university’s Critical Infrastructure and Image Politics research group. Regular guest talks, exhibitions and an annual symposium further enrich professional networking.
