Master in MA Digital Narratives

The MA in Digital Narratives is a four-semester programme aimed at media and creative professionals who want to develop theoretical and practical skills in digital storytelling. The curriculum centres on immersive technologies, interactive storytelling, and the role of artificial intelligence in media production. Students work across formats including web series, XR and VR and AR projects, interactive documentaries, and immersive installations, gaining experience with both established and emerging production tools. The programme uses a research-creation approach, asking students to engage critically with the technologies and narratives they work with. This means examining the ethical, social equity, gender and diversity, and ecological implications of digital media alongside the creative and technical dimensions. Students iterate and experiment as a core method, with creative development structured around agile production practices. Over the four semesters, each student develops a Master's project with an allocated financial budget of up to 4,000 EUR, supported by the school's production department and technical equipment. In the fourth semester, the project becomes part of the Master's thesis, distributed in an 80/20 ratio between the project and written component or vice versa. The programme also provides a foundation for students intending to pursue practice- or art-oriented doctoral studies. The programme is offered at ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln in Köln, Germany.
