Master Lettres — Création littéraire

Tuition fees are 250 EUR per year.

Université d'Orléans, based in Orleans Cedex 2, France, offers a Master Lettres with a track dedicated to Création littéraire, or creative writing. This branch of literary study focuses on the practice of writing fiction, poetry, and other literary forms, alongside the critical study of literature that informs creative work. Students typically take workshops in which they draft and revise original writing, receive peer and instructor feedback, and study published works as models for technique and style. Coursework often pairs creative practice with literary theory, narrative structure, and the history of literary movements, giving students both a practical and analytical grounding in the craft of writing. Because creative writing programs emphasize sustained individual projects, students usually work toward a substantial piece of original writing by the end of the program, developed over multiple drafts and workshop sessions. Career paths connected to creative writing training include publishing, editorial work, journalism, cultural and arts administration, teaching, and independent authorship. Some graduates continue writing professionally while working in adjacent fields such as communications or media, while others pursue further study in literature or creative arts. The program spans two years, is delivered in French, and begins in September, with annual tuition of 250 EUR. Applicants typically come from backgrounds in French literature, languages, or the humanities, and should have an existing interest in and commitment to literary writing, since the track relies heavily on regular workshop participation and independent creative output.
