Master of Engineering Management

Dubai, United Arab Emirates Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Curtin University's Dubai campus offers a Master of Engineering Management, taught in English and accredited by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation. Engineering management sits at the intersection of technical engineering knowledge and business and leadership skills, preparing engineers to move into roles that involve managing projects, teams, budgets and technical operations rather than, or in addition to, hands-on technical work. The curriculum typically combines project management methodologies, engineering economics and cost analysis, quality management and operations, with leadership and organizational behavior subjects that address how to manage engineering teams and cross-functional projects. Students study how engineering projects are planned, budgeted, scheduled and delivered, including risk management and the trade-offs between cost, time and quality that shape most technical projects. Coursework often addresses supply chain and operations management as they apply to engineering and manufacturing environments, along with strategic subjects such as innovation management and technology strategy, since engineering managers are frequently responsible for deciding which technologies or processes an organization should adopt. Because engineering managers work between technical staff and business leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management are emphasized alongside more technical subjects, and case studies and group projects give students practice translating technical considerations into business terms and vice versa. Many programs are designed for students who already hold an engineering background and are looking to move into leadership or project management roles within technical organizations. Graduates typically move into project manager, engineering manager, operations manager or program manager roles within construction, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure and technology companies, applying the degree's combination of technical literacy and management capability to lead engineering teams and deliver complex projects.
