Master of Science in Computational Mathematics

The Master of Science in Computational Mathematics at the University of Passau is a fully English-taught programme that combines mathematical rigour with computational methods. It prepares students to develop, implement, and analyse the algorithms and models used in fields such as engineering, data science, and logistics, with particular attention to the mathematics of artificial intelligence, including deep learning and neural networks. The programme runs over 4 semesters, with entry available in both April and October. Students complete two mathematics seminars and a Master's thesis as core elements, alongside compulsory elective modules drawn from six areas: Algebra (including cryptography and computational algebra); Analysis (including compressed sensing and mathematical foundations of machine learning); Applications (including signal and image analysis and mathematical modelling); Geometry (including expander and random graph theory); Optimisation (including linear and non-linear programming); and Stochastics (including Bayesian inference and Monte Carlo methods).
