Master of Science in Mathematics

Tuition is No tuition fees; 440 EUR/semester.

The Master of Science in Mathematics at Leibniz University Hannover builds on a first academic degree in mathematics and allows students to deepen their knowledge across a broad range of pure and applied areas. Seven institutes contribute to the programme, covering areas including algebra, number theory, discrete mathematics, algebraic geometry, analysis, applied mathematics, differential geometry, and actuarial and financial mathematics. The specific topics within each institute range from representation theory and arithmetic number theory to symplectic geometry, gauge theory, stochastic analysis, and probability. The four-semester programme is divided into a specialisation phase of approximately three semesters, in which students acquire foundational research skills and advanced knowledge in the faculty's main research fields, and a research phase of one semester centred on the Master's thesis. Students also choose an elective course from another scientific field such as physics, chemistry, philosophy, computer science, or economics. All modules carry credit points based on expected workload, and coursework may be repeated without affecting the final grade. The programme admits students in both winter and summer semesters and is offered at Leibniz University Hannover in Hannover, Germany.
