Master of Science in Physics

The MSc in Physics at Freie Universität Berlin is a four-semester, research-oriented programme taught entirely in English. It covers a broad range of physics fields including biophysics, quantum physics, ultrafast physics, nanophysics, and surface science. Students participate in ongoing research projects and receive individual support from instructors and professors throughout the programme. The first year is a study phase in which students deepen their knowledge through compulsory modules, including an Advanced Laboratory Course and a module on Scientific Presentations, as well as a selection of advanced modules in areas such as Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Physics, Quantum Field Theory, Solid State Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, and Biophysics. The second year is a research phase in which students join a research group, work toward expertise in a specific field, and complete the Master's thesis under the guidance of a supervising professor. Students enrolled in the programme can also earn a double degree in Physics with the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. The programme is based at Freie Universität Berlin in Berlin, Germany.
