Overview

The Master of Software Development (MSwDev) is an intensive, 180-point, 12-month conversion degree aimed at graduates without a technical background who want to build a career as a software developer. It starts in July (Trimester 2) each year and runs over three consecutive trimesters.

Programme highlights

• Designed for people with a Bachelor's degree (at least a B average) in a field other than computer science who want to change careers into tech
• Covers web development, testing, mobile apps, cloud computing, agile methodologies, security, data structures, version control, networking, databases, web systems, UX design and software design patterns
• Final trimester is a substantial industry research and development project, typically as a placement with a Wellington ICT business
• Recent graduates have gone on to employers including Trade Me, Datacom, Xero, Google, IBM, Wētā FX, ANZ, BNZ and government agencies such as LINZ
• Not intended for applicants who already have a strong technical/programming background – the Master of Computer Science or Master of Engineering Practice may be a better fit for them
