About the Program

The international MSc in Software Engineering at the University of Hildesheim provides a thorough grounding in software engineering methods and techniques alongside training in selected application domains. The programme covers modern information systems, cyber-physical systems, and AI-enabled software, combining scientific foundations with practical work to develop both understanding and execution skills. The four-semester programme has a methodological core accounting for 65% of the curriculum, an application area component of 10%, and a Master's thesis making up the remaining 25%. Core taught modules cover software engineering, requirements engineering, programming languages, advanced web development, research methods, model-based software engineering, software architecture, and software engineering tools. Students select specialisation modules in areas such as formal methods and programming, and choose application modules from an available list. The third semester includes a group development project, a seminar, and an integrated research project. The fourth semester is dedicated entirely to the Master's thesis. The programme can begin in either the winter or summer semester, with the module sequence adjusted accordingly. The programme is based at the University of Hildesheim in Hildesheim, Germany.
