The Master's in Food Systems at the University of Hohenheim is a multi-institution programme that takes students through the food system as a whole, from primary production and processing through to entrepreneurship and industry application. Students study at three separate European academic institutions over the course of the programme, gaining both broad coverage of the food system and depth in its main subsections. The curriculum integrates entrepreneurial elements throughout, including mentored project work with industry partners from the EIT Food consortium and beyond. The first semester in Hohenheim focuses on primary production principles and the conversion and processing of ingredients and food products, including a Food Product Development module covering food innovation from ideation to implementation. Students also choose from elective courses in food science or agricultural technology. Subsequent semesters at partner universities follow specific paths combining entrepreneurship and emerging technologies modules with host-university specialisations. The final semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis, and students may complete the practical component of their thesis in cooperation with an industry partner. Applicants should be aware that the application process includes both an entrepreneurship test and a selection interview. The programme starts in the winter semester and runs over four semesters.
