The Master's in Media and Communication Science at Technische Universität Ilmenau is a four-semester programme taught in English with a focus on digital media. Course offerings span strategic communication, public relations, communication management, digital and social media, virtual reality, risk and crisis communication, and computational communication science. The programme develops students' analytical, strategic, and applied skills alongside an understanding of empirical research methods, theoretical frameworks, and practical techniques in communication and media. The curriculum across the first three semesters is divided into three categories: theories, methods, and technologies in communication and media; empirical research in communication and media; and specialisation and vocational training. Students can combine these fields according to their individual interests and career goals. An exchange semester at one of the university's international partner universities is available within the programme. The Master's thesis is completed in the fourth semester. Graduates work in areas such as marketing, public relations, data science, market research, event management, journalism, and academia, within companies, NGOs, government agencies, and higher education institutions.
