Master in Materials Chemistry and Mineralogy

Materials Chemistry and Mineralogy at the University of Bremen is a postgraduate programme spanning the range from raw materials to industrial products, offered in cooperation with the faculties of Geosciences and Chemistry, with contributions from the Engineering faculty and the University of Applied Sciences. The curriculum has a mandatory section covering mineralogy, crystallography, solid state and surface chemistry, materials science, and analytical methods, alongside an elective section where students concentrate in either chemistry or mineralogy. The programme runs over 4 semesters. The first semester introduces all core subjects in lectures and exercises. A two-semester analytical methods training course begins in the first semester and continues into the second, alongside a profile section in which students choose their specialisation. In the third semester, students work individually on two research modules in the laboratory, preparing for the Master's thesis. The fourth semester is reserved for thesis work, which is defended in a colloquium. At least one research module must be in the chosen profile. Short field excursions, lab work, or block projects may be scheduled within semester breaks depending on the elective modules chosen. The programme is taught in English and begins in the winter semester at the University of Bremen in Bremen, Germany.
