About Master in Materials engineering

Materials Engineering: Functional Materials is a master's course at AGH University of Science and Technology, taught in English in Kraków, Poland, over three semesters (one and a half years, including the writing of the master's thesis). The course is aimed at graduate students who already have a general background in materials physics, chemistry, and engineering. Students build knowledge of how manufacturing methods, structure, and material properties relate to one another, and how novel manufacturing and processing techniques can be used to develop unique properties. The program's application areas span electronics, photonics, energy storage and conversion, heterogeneous catalysis, health care, and sensing devices. Teaching combines lectures, seminars, and laboratory work centered on surface functionalization, manufacturing bulk materials able to withstand demanding environments, and integrating different materials with one another. Students also work with elements of computer-aided design, modelling, and advanced characterization methods as part of their coursework. Applicants need a BSc in chemistry, physics, or materials engineering. Further information is available from the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, through Professor Paweł Pasierb. Functional materials sit at the center of several fast-growing technology sectors, since electronics, energy storage, and sensing devices all depend on materials engineered for specific performance characteristics. Graduates of this course are positioned for roles such as materials research engineer, product development specialist, or process engineer within electronics, energy, or healthcare-technology companies, as well as for further doctoral study in materials science.
