The Master's programme in Mathematics for Data and Resource Sciences at TU Bergakademie Freiberg is built on an advanced mathematical foundation and focuses on methods and techniques relevant to two pressing areas: the management and analysis of large data volumes, and the mathematical challenges surrounding scarce and valuable resources such as rare earth metals. Students develop skills in scientific machine learning, data exploitation, and geomathematics within a programme grounded in applied mathematical research. A lecture series created specifically for the programme presents mathematical problems drawn from real-world applications, providing a catalogue of relevant problem statements early in the course so that students can apply their skills in context. The series is regularly updated to reflect current research. An industrial internship of at least four months, completed with companies in the region, can be counted toward the Master's thesis: the maximum thesis completion time is then reduced from nine months to six, and the required scope is reduced accordingly. Students may also earn additional certification in Mathematical Data Science or Geomathematics by acquiring in-depth knowledge in the respective specialisation area.
