About the Program

The Master's programme in Mathematics at the University of Göttingen is a research-focused four-semester degree designed to prepare students to conduct independent research and contribute in industry, commerce, and academic or research institutions. Students begin by deepening their undergraduate knowledge and are then introduced to advanced topics and recent developments in their chosen area of specialisation. Students select one of three tracks: a general research-oriented track, a mathematical physics track, or a mathematical data science track. Coursework is drawn from a comprehensive selection of lectures, seminars, and lab courses covering algebra, analysis, geometry, number theory, topology, numerical analysis, optimisation, image processing, statistics, stochastics, and mathematical data science. Minor subjects in business administration, computer science, economics, philosophy, or physics are also available. In the fourth semester, students carry out a supervised but independent scientific project, and part-time study is possible. The programme starts in both winter and summer semesters. It is located at the University of Göttingen in Göttingen, Germany.
