You will spend each week developing and testing mechanical designs in the Engineering Innovation Centre, using CAD software, 3-D printers, CNC machines and rapid-prototype workshops. Core modules such as Design and Sustainability, Engineering Analysis and Engineering Practice give you a solid grounding in mechanics, materials and thermofluids, while project-based labs let you apply theory to real-world components. Team collaboration and regular interaction with commercial partners enrich the learning environment. An optional placement year between the second and final year offers a full twelve months of industry experience.

Graduates move into roles such as design engineer, test engineer or product development specialist across sectors including aerospace, automotive, biotechnology, computing, energy conversion, defence and research and development.
