Bachelor in Medicine

Medicine is the science and practice of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease and injury in humans, combining extensive study of basic biological sciences with clinical training. Students study anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, and microbiology in the early years, progressing to clinical subjects such as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry, combined with supervised clinical rotations in hospital wards and clinics. Coursework moves from foundational science through clinical reasoning and hands-on patient care under the supervision of practicing physicians. Graduates who complete licensing requirements practice as physicians in hospitals, clinics, and private practice, across general practice or specialized fields pursued through further postgraduate training, and some continue into medical research or academic medicine. The length and structure of the program reflect the breadth of scientific knowledge and clinical competence required to practice medicine safely. This program is a 6 year bachelor's degree taught in English at Istanbul Okan University in Istanbul, Turkey. English-medium instruction allows students to study using internationally used medical textbooks, terminology, and clinical guidelines throughout their training. The program combines preclinical science coursework with extended clinical rotations, preparing graduates for licensing examinations and medical practice in Turkey and, subject to relevant recognition processes, internationally.
