Medicine is the study and practice of diagnosing, treating, and preventing illness, combining rigorous biomedical science with extensive clinical training. Students begin with foundational coursework in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology, developing an understanding of how the human body functions in health and disease. As training advances, students undertake clinical rotations across major specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry, working under supervision in hospital and outpatient environments. The length and depth of medical training reflect the scope of knowledge and responsibility involved in patient care, requiring sustained academic effort across both preclinical and clinical years. Students cultivate clinical reasoning, physical examination skills, and communication techniques necessary for interacting with patients, alongside grounding in medical ethics and professional standards. After graduation, students typically proceed to postgraduate residency training and licensing processes to practice as physicians, often specializing in a particular clinical field based on further training. Some pursue academic medicine, biomedical research, or public health careers instead of, or alongside, direct clinical practice. This bachelor's program spans 6 years and is taught in English at Üsküdar University, located in İstanbul, Turkey.
