Marmara University

Bachelor in Medicine

İstanbul, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Medicine is the discipline concerned with diagnosing, treating, and preventing illness and injury, combining a rigorous foundation in biological science with extensive supervised clinical training. The curriculum typically begins with preclinical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology, and pharmacology, giving students a detailed understanding of how the human body functions and how disease disrupts that function. As students advance, coursework shifts toward pathology and microbiology before moving into clinical training, where students rotate through hospital departments including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and psychiatry, among others. During these clinical years, students work alongside practicing physicians, learning to take patient histories, perform examinations, interpret diagnostic tests, and participate in treatment planning under close supervision. Communication skills, medical ethics, and professionalism are emphasized throughout the program, since physicians must navigate sensitive patient interactions and complex decision-making. Many programs also introduce research methods and evidence-based medicine, encouraging students to critically evaluate medical literature and apply current best practices in patient care. Given the breadth of knowledge required, medical education is structured progressively, building from foundational science toward increasingly independent clinical responsibility as students near graduation. Over the program's 6 years, students accumulate both the theoretical knowledge and the hands-on clinical experience needed to practice medicine responsibly. Graduates typically continue into supervised residency training in a chosen specialty before practicing independently as physicians, and the qualification also provides a foundation for careers in medical research, public health, or academic medicine. This program is taught in English at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey.
