About the Program

Full-time PhD research typically lasts three years (six years part-time), while the MSc by Research runs one year full-time (two years part-time). Year 1 focuses on shaping the project with two supervisors, reviewing the literature and planning experimental work. Year 2 sees the research underway, attendance at specialised courses such as electron microscopy, and participation in conferences and workshops. In Year 3 you finalise the experiments, write the thesis and submit a peer-reviewed article.

Graduates move into roles across aerospace, automotive, defence, energy, electronics, healthcare and manufacturing, or pursue academic careers as research fellows, lecturers or HE professional services staff.
