Master in MFA in Producing

The Producing discipline is one of six MFA tracks at the AFI Conservatory. Fellows spend two years learning to manage a project's development, production and post-production, and how to develop material with writers and directors across platforms.

First-year coursework covers finance and distribution fundamentals, script critique, and yearlong support in producing the discipline's Cycle films — budgets, schedules, location permitting, paperwork and creative-team management — alongside the first half of a two-semester business-of-producing sequence.

In the second year, Fellows build a Producing Portfolio across both fall and spring semesters, presenting material for at least two projects as a graduation requirement, while studying episodic-television producing, advanced pitching, and movie marketing and distribution.
