Bachelor in Mining and Geology

Mining and Geology at Silesian University of Technology is a bachelor's degree program taught in English over seven semesters, with yearly tuition of 2,800 EUR. Students acquire general knowledge of basic sciences such as mathematics and physics, information technologies, and specialized technical and social subjects. During four weeks of professional practice at a mining plant, students gain practical skills relevant to their chosen career path. Graduates are able to design, implement, and supervise mining, geological, and geotechnical works, including mechanization, power supply, and computerization, while limiting adverse impact on the environment. The program develops team-work and leadership qualities alongside professional qualifications, preparing graduates to work in various mining plants and enterprises and to solve engineering problems using modern technologies and computer techniques, including participating in workgroups and managing teams of employees. Career paths open to graduates include underground coal mines, opencast mines, ore mines and other extraction operations, specialized service companies working for the mining sector, mining waste utilisation companies, civil and water construction companies that use mining techniques, research centres and design offices in mining and geology, and mining authorities. Graduates are prepared to pursue careers with enterprises extracting internationally traded raw materials such as coal, ores, salt, and sulfur, as well as raw materials of local importance such as stone, gravel, sand, and limestone. The seven-semester, English-medium format gives international students a defined route into a technical mining and geology qualification combined with hands-on plant-based training.
