About Master in Molecular Cell Biology

For Master in Molecular Cell Biology, applications are due 1 February until 31 March 2026.

The Master's programme in Molecular Cell Biology at the University of Bonn is built around the premise that understanding biological processes at the molecular level is necessary to understand life and disease. The programme provides deep insights into molecular and cellular mechanisms, equipping students with skills in cell biological, biochemical, genetic, and computer-aided methods relevant to both fundamental biology and medical research. The programme is jointly anchored in three faculties: mathematics and natural sciences, medicine, and agriculture, which opens a broad range of thematic orientations and elective modules. The first semester covers biochemistry, molecular genetics, developmental biology and physiology, molecular cell biology, biophysics, and statistics in depth, along with mandatory laboratory courses. In the second semester, students carry out small scientific projects in a research laboratory, and soft skills such as scientific writing are taught. The third semester involves two lab rotations and a project exchange, with opportunities for internships outside the university. The final semester is given over entirely to the Master's thesis. The programme runs over 4 semesters and starts in the winter semester. An explicit aim is to position graduates for direct entry into doctoral programmes, and professional fields include basic research in the life sciences, biomedical research, the pharmaceutical industry, and teaching and research at universities. The programme is offered at the University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany.
