The Master's programme in Chemistry at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is strongly research-oriented and integrates advanced laboratory practice with modern aspects of the core chemical disciplines. Students select two of four major disciplines: organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and theoretical chemistry. These selections are supplemented by topics from current research areas such as Advances in Bioorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry, Advances in Homogeneous Catalysis, Advances in Interface and Catalysis Research, or Advances in Energy Materials. The programme spans 4 semesters and is open from both the winter and summer semesters. In the first two semesters, students complete two compulsory modules from their chosen core disciplines alongside a compulsory elective from a predefined list of topics. The third semester includes a further elective and an advanced research phase within the core disciplines at FAU. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. The degree is suited to students who have demonstrated a high percentage of laboratory practicals and strong foundational skills in molecule-based chemistry during their undergraduate studies.
