Cyber security is an exciting and rapidly growing field across industry and academia. Skills developed through this course are in high demand across sectors such as critical infrastructure protection, cloud security, network and application security, cyber threat intelligence, industrial IoT, smart cities, and governance, risk and compliance (GRC). The course also provides a strong foundation for further research studies. The School of Computing has held the Athena Swan Bronze Award since 2016 and particularly welcomes female applicants, currently underrepresented in postgraduate taught courses within the School.

About this course

The MSc award consists of six compulsory taught modules (totalling 120 credits), plus a substantial independent Masters Project (60 credits). Students use various programming languages, including Python and R.

Attendance and assessment

Teaching is normally delivered through around 15 timetabled hours per week, generally Monday to Friday, including lectures, tutorials and practical lab-based learning; the Research Project takes place in the final semester with dedicated supervision. Assessment is 100% coursework, including research paper writing, practical skills tasks, individual and group projects, set exercises and oral presentations. The MSc Project is assessed via a research paper and an assessed MSc conference presentation with Q&A.
