If you hold a first degree in a science, engineering, mathematics, biological or social science discipline and are keen to move into data science, this MSc gives you the technical foundation you need. A minimum 2:2 honours degree or equivalent with some numeracy is required; programming experience is useful but not essential. The course is aimed at graduates from non-computing backgrounds who aspire to roles such as data scientist, data engineer or machine-learning specialist.

In the first year you study modules such as Software Engineering Foundations, Databases and Information Systems, Knowledge Management and Mathematical Tools for Data Science, which build a solid base in programming, data handling and statistical methods. The second year adds advanced modules on storing, processing and modelling large datasets, data visualisation, and a substantial MSc project that may be undertaken with an external partner. Optional modules let you specialise further in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Engineering or Software Engineering.
