About the Program

The MSc Photovoltaics Engineering Science at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is a three-semester English-language programme covering the technical and applied dimensions of photovoltaic energy systems. Core subject areas include Solar Cell Technologies — covering silicon manufacturing, types of crystalline silicon solar cells, and thin-film technologies; Renewable Energy Technologies and Applications; Solar Modules; Power Converters; Energy Storage Systems, including rechargeable batteries and alternative storage such as hydrogen and pumped water storage; System Design, Yield and Performance Analysis; Electric Grids and Solar System Integration; and System and Component Reliability and Assessment. Each semester also includes one elective subject drawn from Machine Learning and AI, Internet Security, Solar Cell and Material Diagnostics, Real Time Systems, or German for Professional Practice. All technical courses comprise lectures, exercises, and practical laboratory work, with some instruction and lab sessions provided by or at the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics (CSP). The third semester is a research semester for the Master's thesis, which may be carried out at Anhalt University, at the CSP in Halle, or at any PV laboratory or company worldwide. The programme can start in either the winter or summer semester. Note that the programme is restarting with an updated structure from summer semester 2026. The programme is offered at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Köthen/Anhalt, Germany.
