About Master in MSc Physics

The application deadline is 1 Mar · 1 Sep.

The MSc Physics at RWTH Aachen University is a four-semester, English-taught programme organised around seven specialisation tracks: Experimental Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology, Quantum Field Theory and Gauge Theories, Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Nanoelectronics, Quantum Technology, and Condensed Matter Theory. The Department of Physics includes eleven institutes covering theoretical and experimental physics, and students have access to research collaborations including the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA) with Forschungszentrum Jülich, as well as external institutes such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology and the Helmholtz Institute for Biomedical Technology. The first year focuses on coursework: advanced lectures, specialised seminars, and laboratory courses within the student's chosen track, supplemented by elective courses and subsidiary subject modules drawn from other RWTH Master's programmes. The second year is primarily dedicated to an individual research project that forms the basis of the Master's thesis. Laboratory courses in the first year are conducted in the Department of Physics. The Master's thesis research may be carried out within the department, at Forschungszentrum Jülich, or at another RWTH institute. The programme is available for entry in both the winter and summer semesters. The programme is offered at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany.
