    About Museum and Curatorial Studies

Tuition is CAD 6,500 per year.

The Museum and Curatorial Studies minor prepares students for roles in curating, museum education, conservation, collections management, and arts administration. Students study the cultural production of museums and their communities through an interdisciplinary approach. They explore topics such as art history, Indigenous studies, visual culture, archives, and the politics of collecting and repatriation. The programme emphasizes critical thinking about museums and their publics, including issues around decolonization and stewardship.

Students take courses in museum education, curating, critical writing, and collections. They gain hands-on experience at the Owens Art Gallery and in the Art Conservation Lab. A senior-year practicum offers experiential learning in real museum settings. Classes are small, with faculty who are practicing artists and art historians. Students work directly with museum professionals and participate in gallery programming and conservation projects.

Graduates pursue careers in galleries, museums, archives, and arts organizations. Some enter top graduate programs in creative fields. The minor is available only to undergraduate students in a Bachelor of Arts degree. Admission does not require a separate application; it is added to a major program during registration.
