The Master's programme in Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering (NHRE) at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an intensive, application-oriented course grounded in active research. It develops advanced scientific and interdisciplinary knowledge to prepare students for demanding engineering tasks in the planning, construction, and realisation of structures under specific natural hazard conditions. Students learn to carry out site- and structure-specific risk analysis using modern tools, and develop skills in modelling, simulation, performance-based design, fieldwork, and laboratory investigation. The programme spans 4 semesters, beginning in the winter semester. The curriculum consists of compulsory modules, elective compulsory modules, elective modules, a special project, and an eighteen-week Master's thesis. The interdisciplinary scope covers engineering disciplines alongside relevant natural sciences, social sciences, and economics. Applied methods focus on earthquake, flood, and wind engineering, as well as computational mechanics, dynamics, and probability theory and stochastic analysis. The programme uses international projects as models to illustrate demands on engineering technology at regional and global levels. Graduates are prepared for professional careers or further research positions requiring innovation in structural engineering under natural hazard conditions. Part-time study may be permitted upon request. The programme is taught at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in Weimar, Germany.
