Graduates leave the programme as fully qualified teachers for children aged 5 to 11, able to take up posts in state or academy primary schools across the UK and abroad, and to progress into specialist or leadership roles.

During the year you alternate between university teaching, seminars on curriculum design, assessment and safeguarding, and two main placement schools where you plan and deliver lessons, assess pupil progress, manage classroom activities and reflect on practice. You also conduct a small-scale classroom investigation and, if travel permits, join a two-week teaching placement in Kenya.

The PGCE award also offers the option to accumulate credits toward a master’s degree, enhancing future career prospects.
