About PhD Programme in Biomedical Data Science

The PhD programme in Biomedical Data Science, known as BIOMEDAS, was launched in the winter semester of 2020 at Hannover Medical School (MHH), which leads the programme within the Hannover Biomedical Research School (HBRS). It is part of the Translationsallianz in Niedersachsen (TRAIN), a network of regional partners in translational research. The programme is designed for students who want to work at the interface of biomedical knowledge and data science skills, covering bioinformatics, medical informatics, databases, data mining, machine learning, applied mathematics, biomedical modelling, and the analysis of complex networks. Research projects within BIOMEDAS focus on areas including exploiting the potential of available biomedical and clinical data sources, personalised medicine through biomedical data, understanding pathomechanisms through biomathematical modelling, and applying artificial intelligence to develop tailored diagnostic and treatment strategies. The programme operates on a collaborative training model involving supervisors from multiple partner institutions. Annual thesis advisory committee meetings and a combination of a core research project with individual courses form the training backbone. The programme begins in the winter semester and runs over six semesters. It is conducted at Hannover Medical School in Hannover, Germany.
