Ambitious researchers looking to push the boundaries of automation and intelligent systems will find a supportive and technologically advanced environment within the Centre for Automation and Robotics Research (CARR). This programme is designed for those who wish to conduct deep, original investigations into complex robotics challenges, ranging from cognitive and developmental robotics to human-machine interaction and industrial logistics.

Research-Led Expertise

You will work under the guidance of a dedicated supervisory team, including a Director of Studies, who will mentor you through the independent research process. The programme emphasizes both academic rigour and practical application, ensuring that candidates not only contribute to the global body of robotics knowledge but also develop professional teaching and research skills essential for a career in academia or high-level industry roles.

Students have access to a comprehensive suite of hardware, including mobile robots (such as Pioneer, Summit, and social robot 'Emma'), various robotic arms (Denso, Mitsubishi, Kinova Jaco), and humanoid platforms like Pepper and NAO. This hands-on capability, combined with a vibrant community of researchers, provides the ideal setting for tackling the next generation of engineering obstacles.
